A Great American Success Story 60 Years in the Making
On April 1, 2025, Cavco Industries brought our extensive home manufacturing brands under the Cavco name. This allows us to be unified as a national brand and invest more effectively in our mission to solve the affordable housing crisis.
With more than 60 years of experience, Cavco continues to deliver the same great products, support and service you’ve come to love – from coast to coast.
Cavco’s story is pure Americana. It started when our founder, Al Ghelfi, built truck campers in the back of his father’s lumberyard in Phoenix, Arizona. Word got out that Al built great campers, and requests started rolling in.
So, Al had started a company, and he named it Roadrunner Manufacturing. Then, in 1966, he changed the company’s name to Cavalier Company.
Cavalier steadily grew throughout the rest of the 1960s and during the early 1970s, but the gas shortage in 1973 forced Al to shift gears. He decided to build mobile homes exclusively because they didn’t require gas. Al’s new market strategy worked beautifully. That year he rebranded the company to Cavco, a shortened version of Cavalier Company.
Cavco became a publicly traded company in 1967 and, since then, our market cap has grown by more than 6,400%. Cavco now has 31 factories and 79 Cavco-owned retail sales centers from coast to coast and our homes are available nationwide.
Cavco's Acquisition Era

In 2009, Cavco started acquiring the best of the best manufactured and modular homebuilders across the country, including Fleetwood Homes, Palm Harbor Homes, Chariot Eagle RV Park Models, Fairmont Homes, Friendship Homes, Destiny Homes, Colony Factory Crafted Homes, Solitaire Homes and Commodore Homes, which included its brands Pennwest Homes, Manorwood Homes, R-Anell Homes and Midcountry Homes. We also acquired American Homestar, known as Oak Creek Homes.
To offer homebuyers a one-stop-shopping experience, Cavco’s CountryPlace Mortgage and the Cavco Insurance Division provide financing and insurance for owners of manufactured and modular homes, and park model RVs.

Cavco’s Mission — To Help Solve America’s Affordable Housing Crisis

In December 2023, Cavco launched The Anthem, the first nationally available, HUD-approved duplex series. The Anthem duplexes were first designed and built at the Cavco-Fleetwood Homes plant in Rocky Mount, Virginia, and mark a significant step in Cavco’s ongoing initiative to help end the affordable housing crisis. There are 4 models in the Anthem series and the duplexes can be placed on a single home lot, which immediately doubles housing availability.
One of Cavco’s Anthem duplexes, The Blue Ridge, is the first true duplex built on a single frame. The Blue Ridge was displayed at Homes on the Hill, a Washington D.C. event that is part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Innovative Housing Showcase.
The Anthem Series by Cavco delivers what the federal government is calling for — a solution to America’s affordable housing crisis.
