Cavco - Hamlet Helps Woman After Devastating House Fire
In February, North Carolina State Representative Dean Arp was running late for a meeting when he saw smoke rising above the tree line in a nearby residential neighborhood. Representative Arp and his wife located the home and sifted through the mailbox to get the address so he could provide it to the fire department.
Representative Arp didn’t know if anyone was inside the burning home, but he entered anyway. There was no time to waste. Upon entering the home, he found Esther Jones, a woman in her 80s, unable to free her wheelchair from a blanket. Representative Arp picked her up and carried her out of her burning home. Three minutes later, her home was totally engulfed in flames.
Just days later, the homebuilding professionals at Cavco - Hamlet built Ms. Jones a beautiful 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom, 873 sq. ft. Augusta (16562A) home. The project was spearheaded by Chris Lowry, General Manager, Cavco Home Center, Hamlet, NC. The Augusta, from Cavco - Hamlet’s Phoenix Series, was delivered to land owned by the Jones family just half a mile south of Ms. Jones’ former home.
“We couldn’t be prouder and more honored to play a role in working with the North Carolina Manufactured and Modular Homebuilders Association [NCMHA] to help Ms. Jones get her life back,” said Chris. “Everybody here in Hamlet, including the home center and the plant, came together to help provide a beautiful home for Ms. Jones. It was truly a labor of love.”
