Major Terms and Definitions
Factory Built Homes
Any home that is built in a quality-controlled manufacturing facility. There are many types of factory-built homes including manufactured, modular, and park models.
Manufactured Home
A factory-built home made to specific HUD Code standards and has received their certification label. Learn more about manufactured homes.
Modular Home
A factory-built home made to meet the same standards as traditional site-built homes in the area. These standards can vary by city, state, and county, so it is important to communicate with your sales representative about where your home will be placed. Learn more about modular homes.
Communities (Manufactured Home Communities)
Also referred to as “manufactured home parks” or “mobile parks”, these are communities of many different manufactured homes. Home searchers can lease the land or home monthly to keep their home in the community. Many different communities across the nation carry Cavco brand homes. Find one in your area.
Retailer

HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development)
The governing body responsible for formalizing regulations on factory-built homes in the United States.
HUD Code
The guidelines created by HUD to measure factory-built homes safety. These regulations cover frame requirements, thermal protection, plumbing, electrical, and many other safety aspects of a home. If a home is built to their guidelines, it is given a certification label and is referred to as a ‘manufactured home.’
Mobile Home
The idea of mobile homes has changed since the conception of affordable and movable housing.
Park Models & Cabin RVs
These unique spaces have nearly 400 square feet of living space and are super energy efficient. Park models have just as many different features and benefits as other factory-built homes but allow customers to maximize home efficiency at a lower cost.
Modular Commercial Structures
Business structures that are factory built but are zoned for business use. Must be built to local city, state, and county regulations for commercial buildings like a modular home but will be used for conducting business.
Single Wide /Multi Wide (Single Section/Multi Section)
A factory home can be built and delivered in one, intact section or in multiple sections. Many homes are built in two sections and are referred to as double-wide, but triple wide and higher are available. The width and length of these sections depend on the floor plan. Refer to your sales representative for specific dimensions.
Company-owned Retailers
These sellers are Cavco owned and run. These stores will guarantee you the best customer service and specials on your home. Look for an orange banner on a retailer to find the closet company-owned retailer to you.
Independent Retailer
These sellers are contracted with our plants to sell homes on our behalf. We sell our homes to many different independent retailers around the country. Find the closest one to you here.
In Stock
Homes that are available for purchase from a retailer or model center. While our teams work hard to ensure all online stock is accurate, there may be some delays in houses being sold. Check with your sales representative to ensure the home you are interested in is still available.
Series
A collection of similar floor plans that can be bought by a retailer.
